Acing the Interview

This is the last entry in our series about how to improve your marketability as an English Teacher.

How to give a great interview

1) Start with a good first impression- be punctual, dress smartly, be alert. If you know you will be late or cancel, at least call- being a no-show will hurt you should you apply for future positions.

2) Be prepared. If you get an interview here at EduCareer, we will send you a list of paperwork we need in advance. Forgetting all your paperwork does not leave a good impression. It can also be helpful to bring examples of materials you have made or lesson plans in case you are asked to do a demonstration.

3) Be communicative. We're looking for signs of what kind of teacher you'll be in the classroom- brusque, one-word answers don't show your explanation abilities.

4) Be concrete. When asked what kind of lesson structure you use or examples of how you discipline students be able to give examples of your classroom policies.

In short, the same strategies of preparation and enthusiasm that make a good teacher are the key to giving a good interview. Keep that in mind and your interview will go smoothly. We look forward to meeting you!
