English Teaching Robots
2011/01/27
South Korea has introduced 29 robots that teach English in Elementary schools as part of a pilot program. The 1 meter tall egg-shaped robots have a projected face on the screen and are controlled by English teachers in the Philippines, who can see the children and hear their responses via video feed. The robots cost approximately 750,000 yen each and are thought to be a solution to improving the English skills of both children and adults who would be too nervous to talk to a live foreigner.
