Adjusting to a New School

2011/03/30

Many of you will be starting at new schools in just a few days. It can be exciting and stressful to enter a new workplace, but by preparing yourself you can ease the transition. If possible, get copies of informational paperwork in advance, like a map of the school, a list of the names of teachers you'll be working with, and a class schedule- usually at least some of this information will be in a school manual, so try and get a copy. Having this information means you can figure the basics of the school and won't be burdening the other teachers with too many questions during the busy start of the school year.

Another thing to prepare in advance is a short introduction speech in English and Japanese. If the idea of public speaking terrifies you, start practicing now- you will probably have to introduce yourself in the office and in front of the school!

Good luck!
