Government Calls for Direct Hire

In a panel that met Wednesday, the government has called for a plan to hire foreigner teachers as permanent members of staff in order to increase student English proficiency as well as pressuring boards of education to increase the number of 18 year olds with experience abroad by starting or expanding exchange programs.

While private schools have been doing things like this for years, the pressure for public schools to offer similar programs should open up new opportunities for foreign teachers in Japan.
