Schools Not Sold on Autumn Enrollment Plan
2012/01/25
Previously we mentioned that the prestigious Tokyo University was considering changing its schedule to autumn enrollment that would allow the university to fall in step with western schools. Other universities, however, remain undecided, even though the pressure to follow ToDai's lead is strong.
In a poll conducted by the Daily Yomiuri, 36 polled institutions were considering changing to autumn enrollment, 30 were not, and 7 were undecided. Medical and educational colleges, whose students sit national exams held in February each year, are especially reluctant to change. If the school year runs from September-July and the exams are in February, students will either be taking them before they've completed their schooling or after being out of school and work for half a year.
