Across the Curriculum

2012/12/12

Being innovative can be a challenge if you're afraid of change. I recently came across two different news stories about education that shared something in common: Doing things differently and creatively across the curriculum in new ways.

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/dec/13/tp-classroom-example-leads-way/

The first article here discusses a teacher who encourages his students to write - a lot - not only in English classes, but also in math and science classes. Writing and expressing your opinion became something that is expected of the students in all of their school courses.

The second article discussed an immersion program for a kindergarten and elementary class that was extremely successful, not because they were teaching everything only in Spanish, but every subject they taught was carried out in both languages. Imagine a math class where the teacher used both English and Spanish within the same lesson. Are you feeling inspired to try out some new ideas in your own ESL classes yet?
