Great Worksheet Creation Resources

2014/04/02

Games and activities for the classroom are an English Teachers best friends. Worksheets, although not always as popular with students, are no enemy either. Worksheets help students visualize and contextualize your lessons, while giving the necessary repetition to train comprehension. If done right, worksheets can be fun too.

The trick is to keep them organized and gradual, like the beginning of a good video game. Don't mix tasks right from the start, but build challenges step by step. If a worksheet is starting to get convoluted and cluttered, silence your inner hippie, and add another page (just promise to do something for the environment later). Because multiple page worksheets give a sense of progression, and is the best way to separate or organize ideas.

Of course pictures give a sense of theme and meaning to worksheets, but beware how they look after being copied a thousand times, keep them light and clear. In fact, a good font can be worth a thousand pictures. Fonts give so much emotion and feeling to text. Plus there is a myriad of fonts for free online. So even if you're not a graphic designer by trade (or hobby), then these online resources can help you make custom worksheets that will help you and your students achieve your goals for learning.

 - DaFont.com - Thousands of free and exciting fonts.
 - Worksheet Works.com - Quite possible the best worksheet resource online.
 - TEFL.net Worksheet Generator - Handy-dandy scripts so you don't have to.
 - School Express.com - A little dated, but not too shabby.
 - Puzzle Generator - Good ol' Discovery Channel brings us free Puzzle Generators.

We hope these help you and your students in class, or... as homework (mwahahah!)
