Teleworking - Random Thoughts

Working from home, week 4... or is it week 3? Or week 2? Seems like the body clock/calendar is out of order! In any case, it has felt like over a month already... and it looks like schools will extend their closures until the end of May.

Some of our schools have opt for online learning, and have carried out classes as usual since early April. It's still too early to see how successful or unsuccessful these classes are, but we hope these schools can set good models for other schools nationwide to follow in the future.

Schools aside, how has the past few weeks been? There's already enough negativity in the media about people getting stressed out, domestic violence, sedentary lifestyles, economic decline, amongst others. So, I'll be focusing on the positive stuff I've discovered from teleworking.

No commute. This is definitely the first thing that comes to mind, since the usual commute is 90 minutes one way (not that I mind since it's napping and reading time). This extra 3 hours everyday ties in with the other things below.

Chores leisurely done. Able to take breaks between tasks to get laundry, cleaning, and cooking done. Usually all these chores are squeezed in between coming home from office and dinner.

Better diet. The convenience store next to the office is always tempting. Less convenience store nearby means less snacking and buying lunch. Home cooked meals 3 times day now.

Learning time. Since there are less tasks and classes than usual, there's a lot of opportunities for reading and studying. In fact, all staff here are tasked with learning something new every week and sharing it during our meetings.

Sleep! Finally getting the recommended 7-8 hours sleep. Combined with the better diet, my body will thank me later.

Self motivation / self discovery. Have discovered ways to stay motivated and understand my own ways of 'getting the job done' better. This is a great opportunity for everyone to become more self-aware.

No co-workers! No one to chat with means staying on task better.

*Note, I do love my co-workers, and miss them a lot. We have daily Zoom meetings, but it's just not the same.

Family time. Enough said. No cabin fever, yet!

It'll be interesting if my thoughts will be the same or not at the end of lockdown. We're looking at another 5 weeks minimum.

Everyone, stay motivated!
